Alexander Thompson
Program Manager
Alexander began composting over a decade ago, and his passion for the art and science of composting grows daily. As an undergrad, he learned how human behavior significantly contributes to the myriad of major issues threatening life on Earth. He then earned an MPH in Health Behavior and became interested in addressing the negative impacts of food insecurity (and the food system at large) on both human and environmental health. Once out of the classroom, Alexander spent four years farming around the country and ultimately realized that community health is intricately linked to soil health. What’s more, he feels that the way we treat our soil is indicative of how we treat ourselves, each other, and the world around us. By keeping food scraps out of landfills while producing biologically rich, locally sourced soil amendments that can grow healthy food, Alexander believes the act of composting is a critical component of a more just and sustainable/regenerative future. As an Alabama native, he is well aware of the relatively sparse composting scene in the Southeastern US and has been on a mission to promote the cause however he can. He is excited to join the team and looks forward to life in the sunshine state!
